Sunshine Day

Sunshine Day, 16 April is an annual commemoration of the return to the surface of the Earth of human culture, resulting in the Greening of Earth and the establishment of Florian culture across Earthspace.

History

In 2174, the reformed machines were three years into their intensive search for living humans in the wake of the Comet Strike and the Zero Dark. It was the moment that inaugurated the Flowering and founded the Florian Age. It was also the day of first contact between human people and the reformed machines who had survived the Zero Dark.

Celebration in Florian times

People traditionally celebrate Sunshine Day in the bashas by climbing to the highest point of the central needle of their basha and admiring the sky. Second stage aigo machines who fly fanos modbods offer rides to people. The more enterprising celebrant may travel to any one of the ten space stations tehtered to the earth in geostationary orbit to admire their planet or take rides in various spacegoing ais. It is a day to remember all the benefits of coming back to the surface, and all the good that has been done since the opening of the Nest.
