The term people in the Antisense Universe refers to anyone who is not a hanyo. In effect, this means all human females, and post 2174 also all machines.

History

In the 2030s, with the Bitch Wars in full swing, the term woman became pretty much an insult, particularly as Pradip Shankar had squarely blamed mothers for Male Hypertoxic Syndrome, the hanyo disease. Tired of being constantly blasted by the hanyo propaganda machine for being female, many women opted to call themselves 'people', shunning the word 'woman' much like Black people had shunned the word 'nigger' in the twentieth century. 'People Not Women' was a common slogan on t shirts and graffitti until the hanyo crackdown of 2048-2050.

Usage

Before 2048, most people would use the formulation 'people and hanyos' to refer to the human race, whereas the hanyos would say, 'achievers, chicks and slags'. The use of the term 'hanyo' was banned by the corporations post 2048.

In Florian times

The Florians continued to use the word 'people' to refer to themselves post the Flowering of [2174]], but they expanded its meaning to include the machines.
