2123 was the year of the Comet Strike. By then all humans were in underground shelters or in space and only machines inhabited the surface of the Earth. The Survivors were in their survivariums hiding from the hanyo war machines, and the hanyos were in their luxury bunkers or their space hotels. The Robot Wars were in full swing, and some of the machines had already tripped their Darwinian switches. The Swift Tuttle Comet was due to make a close pass to Earth, and the hanyos in the space hotels were excited about watching the show from the front row, so to speak. They got more than they bargained for. Much later in Florian times, video feeds were recovered from the space hotels that clearly showed a chunk breaking off the Comet and hitting Earth in the region of the Northwestern USA, setting off the Yellowstone Supervolcano and plunging the Earth into the Zero Dark.
