Space hotel

All the major corporations possessed a space hotel after the Sweep. These were designed, built and sent into orbit on contract by Lionfist from its gigantic space base, Satellite City, in the Quaidam Basin. The space hotels were the last word in off-planet luxury. Their topsides were delicate glass domes enclosing gardens and pleasure areas, while their undersides bristled with weaponry and surveillance gear. They thus performed the dual function of providing hanyo luxury getaways and keeping the people down.

After the Comet Strike, the space hotels were plunged into chaos, cannibalism and war. By 2125 no one was left living on them, and their orbits began to decay. By the second Florian century they had become a real pending menace, and the Florians threw their efforts and resources into building space elevators to decommission the space hotels in stages. Valuable data and recordings were recovered that shed light on the last days of the hanyos. Some parts of the space hotels are preserved in the museum at Zigsa's Nest.
